Who is Chalice Christian Church?
We are a worshipping congregation of faithful, active, fun people who
seek to hear God's call to us in the world.
Since Chalice Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) declared itself an Open & Affirming
Congregation over a decade ago and have sought to live that
out, we, the Chalice Board of Directors, affirm the California
Supreme Court decision of May 15, 2008 which strikes down the ban
on same-gender marriages in our state. We call for equal rights
of all citizens. We have all been created in God’s image and
recognize that God is Love. We affirm loving relationships and
are happy to join with people of all sexual orientations in
celebrating those relationships.

We seek to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ by working to right injustices, help those who are on the edges of society,
spiritually nourish all who would worship with us, and provide
opportunities for Christian growth and development. We are intentionally intergenerational,
and our
church affirms the value of listening and learning from many ages
and life experiences.
Chalice began as a
new congregation in 1996, with a strong desire for church to be a safe,
free, and welcoming place. Our vision is for a community where varieties
of experience and freedom of interpretation is not only welcome, but
appreciated and honored.
Chalice was officially recognized as a
congregation in 1999, by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a
nearly one million member denomination headquartered in Indianapolis,
Indiana. We are one of the sixty-one member churches of the Christian
Church of Northern California-Nevada.
